PRESS RELEASE
JOSE BECHARA | Dancing in my room
Mar 11 – May 10, 2023
Dancing in my room is the title of a song by the Canadian musician @347aidan, which I have borrowed for a new series of paintings. The paintings suggest color as the protagonist of a pictorial practice.
In the last years, I have dealt with the color as an element in service of ordering certain spaces in the painting. In this new series the intention is to propose the color as the subject
As an autonomous agent, the color is the work. It emerges solidly and intensely, constituted within the paintings. It doesn’t hesitate. It wants to claim itself publicly.
The dimensions are purposely small. These works in smaller shapes exist as pieces of something. Chunks of colors in small territories.
They are willing to overflow beyond the physical limits of the metric to which they are limited. They are works with a level of liberty heading to a non-familiar territory - which is usually darker and closer to the soil and to minerals.
Therefore, Dancing in My Room is a drill composed of both risk and freedom. This series that arose from recent effort does not require justification. It only exists in order to be observed.
It wants nothing but to seek for being.
